JON PYLYPCHUK

Hey bruce you like this guy

http://artsy.net/artwork/jon-pylypchuk-for-all-the-love-in-the-world

So then we will burn you when you are dead

So then we will burn you when you are dead

2006
Wood, wood glue, fake fur, hot glue, watercolor, polyurethane, cotton
244 x 203 x 203 cm

Jon Pylypchuk makes his sculptures from the most impoverished materials: scraps of wood, remnant fabric, felt, glitter, and glue. Rendered with wonky ‘best attempt’ aesthetics, Pylypchuk mines all the sentimental authenticity of the unloved yet hopeful media of craft camps and community workshops. So Then We Will Burn You… pictures wee critters gathering around their stricken colleague. Reducing the moral sophistication of the adult world to artless simplicity, Pylypchuk plays out horror and grief with child-like naiveté and chilling matter-of-fact-ness, authoring a folktale of tactlessness, discomfort, and inadequacy.

What’s the First Thing the Phone Saw When I Turned it On?

2013-08-24 12.26.08

At Alice Street Bakery. I gotta remember to leave it on ‘camera’ when it turns off.

The slats on my side of the bed keep shifting out of place, leaving a big gap under my upper back. Fixed it! Fred helped.

Handwriting Doppelgänger

Handwriting Dopelganger
This box is on the 5th floor at OTOP. It looks like I wrote DETOX USE ONLY (TOX SCREENS) on it, but I didn’t. Somebody else did. Remarkably similar to my handwriting, though. I do a double-take whenever I walk past it.
My friend Leroy came to me
He said look out your window
Does the first man you see look like me?
I'm sooooore
Displeased
Texas Rose Café, Little Feat, Sailing Shoes

Because outside of my hotel window
There’s a sign that goes from red to green,
It says:
Chop Suey and Join the US Marines
Here’s a sample of my handwriting on cardboard for comparison.

Box from Jim

Finally arrived via Hell's Kitchen. It's full of great stuff-Jim's last bottle of hot sauce, some habanero jelly, a breathalyzer, a very sharp knife, a couple books, some pimp socks and a poster of political bent. Thanks,
Jim!

Anise Gelatin Dessert

Weird Mexican Jello from Produce Pro. It's anise flavored, and after the gelatin and sugar dissolved in a double-strength potion, I let it cool for a bit and topped it off with some super-sodastreamed seltzer. The bubbles got trapped in as the jello set. This is strange stuff. Tastes fizzy. And licorice-y! I think this would make some interesting ouzo jello-shots.

After we got the new phones, I took Richard and Cathy out for ice cream.

This is the last photo that I took with my old camera, and it’s from June 10th. I’ve been using the phone’s camera since I got it. I recently pulled the old Canon PowerShot SD630 Digital Elph out of the mothballs for a short video project. I love that camera.
