- Turned the bowl inside-out.
- Protected balloon with a sandwich-bag "condom".
- Smoothed silicone over surface with a spatula.
Something in my cultural memory is thinking about reed baskets covered with pitch. Or maybe that's just my imagination.

I think maybe Pruntilla needs a cape too. It'll be her disguise for when she transforms into Pruntzilla.
I was trying to make a watertight semiflexible composite material. I crocheted a bowl shape, squirted RTV silicone sealant into the inside of it and smushed it around with a plastic spatula.
Then I inflated a balloon into the bowl, forcing the silicone to ooze thru the holes in the crochet.
Then I learned that curing silicone destroys balloons.
I also learned that it's not easy to work with sealant without it turning into a big gooey mess. Well, I guess I re-learned that.
The enterprise FAILed spectacularly! The interior of the bowl is all cucky, and while the outside surface has some interesting areas, it's also got a bunch of ugly smudged parts. Back to the drawing board on this one.

...of a tree which I think of as being probably a honeysuckle, but honestly, after nearly 30 years living in Oakland, I really don't know.
I think it's like totally bogus to put a sign that says PIE PIE in front of a goddamn copy shop. They don't even have any pie. They have maybe a picture of pie. It's really not the same thing.
See theiff.org/gallery/index.html#, where I hope to submit this for the Crochet Hyperbolic Coral Reef Project. For extra credit: It's Mobius. And hella flouncy!

Whadda we got here? Nuts, bolts, makeup brushes, washers, office supplies, bungee, a tube of glue, a comb...?
I fought for a solid week to convince the hospital where I do SSI outreach in the methadone clinic to vaccinate me against H1N1. I had to become a very squeaky wheel.
This is the sticker that they gave me to put on my employee badge, to show that I've been vaccinated. Lacking a badge, I stuck it on my watch.
Until I got my shot, I was not myself. Some people get a reaction to the vaccination. I had a reaction to being denied vaccination. I'm glad that I stood up for my and Meghan's rights. And I, along with everybody else, am glad that that's over. Thanks to Katie for taking my purse to Mary when I left it at the office. Thanks to Marga for referring to the hosebag as a purse.
My first attempt at contribution to the crochet coral reef project. This photo is from a couple weeks ago. The thing has gotten much bigger(and flouncier!) since then. More current photos to follow soon.
Jig for drilling the holes in the frame. I made the jig out of vinyl erasers from the dollar store, held together with krazy glue.
Here's the hardware that I'll be drilling the holes for
And here's how the jig works. It'll allow me to locate & drill the holes for the screws quickly and accurately.
In the hand of a very happy 5-year-old on Mission St. Nov 20, 2009.
I only got a quick glimpse of the object, but the structure was immediately apparent. As was the kid's emotional state.
...And I'm thinking: "But there's no triangles on the bottom half!"
But I'm not sure whether this really happened, or maybe I just dreamed it.
This one, I'm pretty sure it's real.
