I'm playing around with a response to Lars Von Trier's film about Jørgen Leth's film, The Perfect Human.
Look at him. Look at him now. Look at him all the time.
Big brucine ups to tkling for alerting me to all that existential Dutch cinema stuff.
brucine (broo'-seen), 1) n. Pharm., Chem. a bitter, poisonous alkaloid, C23H26N2O4, obtained from the nux vomica tree; 2) n. Bruce Bortin's 'low-impact' weblog

Naked Tea Egg
Mary likes these. I'm not so sure, although, to be fair, my alimentary weather has been a little bit off lately.

Schiavo
Tasteless? Sure!
Inappropriate? Absolutely!
Unnecessary? I think not.
Of course it's despicable. But it sure isn't the worst thing you've seen this week.
This photo is in the "Frist" group at Flickr, where people are sending pictures of what ails them for photodiagnosis by Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist M.D.

R.I.P. Bortino
I pulled the plug on http://www.concentric.net/~bbortin yesterday. I've changed to Earthlink for my ISP, and maintaining the Concentric account for a website that I hardly ever use just didn't make sense.
I'll put something like bortino up somewhere else eventually. When I built the old site, I didn't heve a clue as to what I was doing, so it was held together with baling wire and chewing gum, and just porting it over to a new address is out of the question. It was time for a rebuild anyway.
This is the first time in five and a half years that I haven't had a website, and it feels kind of strange, like I'm walking around with my fly open or wearing a cloisonne G.O.P. lapel pin or something. And a little bit blue.

Lobster Kit
At lunch today, the bread came in pieces that we were obviously supposed to assemble into the form of a crustacean.
What we were expected to do with it after that wasn't clear.
Car Story
This picture wants a narrative.
Where did the other two wheels go?
What became of their car?
Whose coffee is that?
Did Mr Silver Car or Ms Black Sedan do anything, or did they just sit there on their radials, passively observing the mayhem, not lifting so much as a wiper blade to help out?
I need a story, people.

Binh Minh Quan
Mary came home early today. We met in Chinatown, and I took her out to lunch here. Lovely unpretentious Vietnamese food on a miserable rainy day.
Glen Teaching
Mary was home sick for last night's Art 109 class, so I videotaped the lecture for her. Here's a still of our excellent teacher, Glen Moriwaki, near the start of class.

Warren, Lynne-Rachel, John
We're working on engulfing a clay woman in plaster.
Although it was fun helping Lynne-Rachel with her project, I am so glad that I'm no longer engaged in the making of objects.
Juiced Oil Slick
This was on the pavement where the car with the
If It Has Tits or Wheels,
It Will Give You Trouble
license plate parks when it drove off the other day.

de Young lamps installed
Tim took this shot while he & Dan were installing the lamps at the Cafe at the new de Young Mueum in Golden Gate Park. I'll probably be using it in the video that I'm making of the project.

Jean Drives Bart's Car--Exquisite Corpse State 2
Here's Bart's drawing with my addition to it. Now I'll pass it back to him, and we'll see what he does with it.

Seatless Bicycle Locked to BART
Neatly juxtaposed to the golden gloves/shopping cart element.
Gotta love those Situationists!
Boxing Glove Shopping Cart
This, along with the bicycle Kryptonited to the BART railing nearby, was obviously a public art installation.

Tom
Here's Tom playing with what used to be the Chazz Cats after the ceremony. Those guys are getting really good.
Wendel, Katie, Cathy
Wendell is speaking about Richard. It was a nice speech, good thoughts well expressed. I thought he'd never shut up.
When he did, the folk trio came on, precipitating my unfortunate outburst. Y'see, I was concentrating so much psychic energy on not running away, screaming, into the woods, that my anti-giggle circuit failed, and I started laughing uncontrollably.
I apologize.

Adam, Audrey, Al
Adam & Audrey were passing a strip of silver duct tape back and forth. When this picture was taken, it was on Adam's back. But it had been on Audrey's jeans a few minutes before. I don't have any idea what those guys were up to.
And isnt Al the last word in "Avuncular-al!"

Cover Letter
I sent this letter to Stanley Bard, manager of the Chelsea Hotel, along with a DVD of the footage that we shot of the Gates project, and the interview that Mr Bard gave about Christo & Jeanne-Claude's time at the Chelsea in the 60's.
Last Monday at class, I gave a copy of the same DVD to Glen Moriwaki, who promised me an "A" in the class, but I don't think he was serious.
