Out for lunch at Pho 84 yesterday with Mary.
How many squares can you find in this picture? What's the gender of the artist?

Enrique Chagoya drawing
Gallery Paule Anglim yesterday. Excellent show. Drawings, scrolls and large canvases by Enrique Chagoya. In parts consciously remeniscent of Philip Guston, while employing a much more lush font of imagerey. Ooh, typing that made my fingers hurt.
I asked if it'd be okay to take a photo or two of some of the drawings. I wanted to show them to Mary & Alex, both big Guston fans.

The old Goodluck Market in Oakland Chinatown closed suddenly in late July. Refurbishing has ensued, and it looks like it's just about to re-open under new management.
I'm so happy.

The tree next to my Tienanmen Tire Tree just got sawn down. It had split in a windstorm about a month ago.
Thank you, City of Oakland

Pearl
Pearl is sitting on a satin comforter. Her brother Ray is nowhere to be seen, good. And that scary man who lives with her is pointing that lens-thing at her, which is a form of attention, good, and he's doing it from a safe distance, across the room, also good.
That's one complex cat right there. Gotta love her. Awww.

The reason that I haven't posted a bumpersticker on a gas guzzler entry lately is that I'm almost out of the bumperstickers that Kyle sent me, and I want this last one to count. So I'm saving it for a Humvee. Hummer. H2. I don't know what the distinctions are.
I do know that on a Humvee website, they talk about gas mileage, and give figures as low as 3.8 MPG.
They're not east to find, though. I don't think that people who drive Hummers are likely to park them where I can get at them, either. I'll just have to keep my eyes peeled, I guess.
Meanwhile, here's a legit Hummer bumpersticker. Fair & Balanced, right?
Cathy Birthday 04
Ray & Pearl's birthday card to Cathy. We're taking her out to Chow for dinner tonight. And tomorrow, out for drinks with Judy at some place called "The Feckless Ponzi Scheme" before the theater.
McDull
Jesus I hate this interface. It's like wrestling with vampires to post anything. And God knows how you go about linking to another page. I'm going to try to figure that out during the course of this entry.
Anyways. After Tai Chi today (I haven't been to Tai Chi in, like, months now, but as usual, they were happy to see me, and I was glad I got off my lazy ass and went...) after Tai chi I did some shopping in Chinatown. Produce, a couple MiniDV tapes, and then I needed a bag for my camera.
A little bag, for when I'm just doing still photography, and I don't want to haul around all the extra crap that I need for shooting video. I finally found the bag shown here, with the famous Hong Kong cartoon pig, McDull. His name in Chinese sounds like "Tao-something."
I've sewn the bag into my backpack, so that my camera can feel safe & tidy when it's traveling with me.Thursday, October 21, 2004

Geometry in the Oval Office
My remarks upon receiving trophy at BVFF--Best of Festival, PSA/Commercial for America Deserves Better:
"Thank you for this award, and I'd also like to thank your mean-spirited, trapezoidal president, without whose inspiration I couldn't have made this film."
Stop Bush
Somebody put up these posters on the UC Berkeley campus yesterday. They're really nicely printed on glossy stock, maybe 18 x 24". There's a printed signature, "Serra". Anybody know anything about them?

L-R did the honors on this one. Since I didn't have my camera with me, I did a sketch.
