Pedicure

Mary took me out for a pedicure for our anniversary. I’d never been.  Lord knows my feet could use some attention.  My operator, Cindy, met what must have been quite a challenge with good humor.

This is in the iridescent foot-tub where you soak your feet while sitting in your spa-chair. Don’t worry, you can ask them to turn off the massage feature on your spa-chair.  There was lots of cutting and filing and pushing and scraping and much abrasive scrubbing. All in all, it was a little more sensation than I’m comfortable with.

So smooth! So pampered! My feet can’t believe that they’re a part of me anymore.  “What,” they wonder, “are we doing carrying this fat slob around?”

Stucco

Afterward we went out to Los Cantaros for a bite.  I like stucco the wall outside when the light’s right.

True Story

Banana Garbage Daquiri colored 2
Walking back to HAP from the BAART Clinic the other day, I stopped in a liquor store, got a banana.  I’d finished it by the time I’d walked down 9th Street to Mission.  There’s a trash can on that corner, so that’s where I went with the peel.
Parked at that same corner, lights flashing, was a cop car.  As I approached the trash can, I saw that I wasn’t alone there.  Two cops, who had obviously just intercepted some open containers on the street, were there, emptying a half-pint each of vodka and rum into the trash can, just as I tossed in my banana peel.
”Looks like we’re making a banana-trash daiquiri,” I quipped. “Cocktail time!”
They didn’t respond.

Update 10/7/11: The large turgid cocktail shaker has been removed by the city.  There goes my plan to make garbage-tinis for the neighborhood.

Fish Mystery

On Fridays, I walk down 24th street to get to my gig at Ward 93 at San Francisco General. There’s a restaurant called La Parrilla at 24th & Folsom, and they always have their specials, covered in saran wrap, displayed in their window.
Thing is, it always looks exactly the same.  I’ve never been able to tell whether it’s real food that they're showing, or cunningly wrought plastic models of food, and they change the saran wrap every once in a while so it doesn’t start to look all dingy.  I’ve been especially concerned about the fish, because, even if they fix a new one every morning, who would want to eat fish that’s been sitting out in a window all day?

So I took a picture last Friday…

…and another yesterday, and guess what!

Two different items entirely. It’s totally fish.  Here’s what it looks like on their website

Looks good.  Mystery solved.  But I think I’ll have the torta de pollo instead, gracias.
